NO REFUNDS OR CREDITS. IF YOU CAN'T GO, YOU MUST SELL YOUR SPOT.
UPDATE: 6/7/10 - This is on High Country's website: "Leave your pets, axes, fireworks and guns at home."
UPDATE: 6/2/10 - Feel free to arrive when you would like. The folks that are doing the waterfall hike MIGHT arrive between 4 - 5:30pm. We will be in campsite #2. Bring a cooler, drinks and if you have some, firewood. Nothing like telling stories and joking around a campfire. Bring chairs, etc. In regards to meals since there are so many folks arriving at different times everyone is on their own for meals. Feel free to work meals out amongst any carpoolers or tent sharers. Also, as an FYI, there is a McDonald's about a mile down the road if you wish to get that for breakfast Sunday morning as we will be getting up EARLY.
Please work out among the "comments" section any car pooling, tent sharing or camp-stuff borrowing. Please make sure you answered the question about what you wish to eat for lunch on Sunday in your RSVP. If you can't for whatever reason, put in in the comments section. This is going to be an AWESOME weekend!!!
Join us for an EXCITING morning of Whitewater Rafting on the UPPER and MIDDLE Ocoee at an AMAZING STL price!
For $75.00 you get the Upper & Middle Ocoee Combo, lunch (hamburger or veggieburger/chips/drink) and camping the night before. Unfortunately, if you are not able to camp, it's the same price.
STL Paying Member: $75.00 (go here to see if you're a member. http://www.meetup.com...)
Non-Paying Member: $80.00
Indicate in your RSVP if you are camping. Also, if you plan to camp, you should join us for a day-hike the day before. Here are more details.
We will start at 8:30am and will be finished by 2:30pm which gives us plenty of time to drive back to Atlanta, plus, if folks want to grab another bite to eat afterwards we can do that as well.
We will meet at the outfitters NO LATER THAN 8:00AM on Sunday, June 13th.
For those NOT camping make sure you are here by this time. Be on time, otherwise, you lose out on your spot and money.
We will be on the water approximately 4 1/2 hours. We will be running rapids up to Class V. This is going to be AWESOME!
You will get WET so please wear something that dries fast! That's what makes whitewater rafting so fun! The water is cold, dress accordingly. No sandals, you must have good water shoes that will not come off if you decide to swim one of the rapids.
Bring dry clothes, to change in after we're done. Also, please bring some cash to tip your guides. I'd say between $3-$5 per person but that's your call. Pay more if you'd like.
There will be six (6) paddlers and a guide in each boat.

From their website:
"NEW" UPPER AND MIDDLE OCOEE RIVER COMBINATION
You can now raft the 1996 Olympic Course on the Ocoee River! The Legacy of the 1996 Olympic Games to the Ocoee Region is a 5-mile stretch of powerful rapids upstream from the traditional put-in for the Middle Ocoee River.
If you have rafted the Middle Ocoee, you will find that the Upper Ocoee provides a much different and more diverse paddling experience. From the put-in you will float downstream through a sublime wilderness setting with scenic mountain vistas and easy warm-up rapids. As you acclimatize to the challenges of whitewater, the anticipation begins to build for larger rapids lurking downstream. An angry roar from up ahead soon draws your attention from the scenery as you approach the first big drop, a maelstrom named "Mikey" for its appetite (for it will eat anything.) Paddle hard, for those who survive the giant pour-over at "Mikey" immediately find themselves battling the continuous waves and large (unavoidable) hydraulics of the "Blue Hole" rapid.
Just downstream you will run the most distinctive rapids in the Eastern U.S. on the 1800-feet long Olympic course that continues to challenge the world's best paddlers. 35 million dollars were spent prior to the '96 games to engineer this steep stretch of riverbed into a veritable whitewater heaven, where named drops like "Smiley Face" and "Humongous" simply blend together into one unforgettable roller coaster ride. Haven't had enough yet? The Upper Ocoee River saves the best for last, traveling downstream from the Olympic Course you will be tested by "Hungry Mother," the largest rapid on the entire river. If "Mickey" didn't eat you already, be very wary around her mother. After your exciting run on the Upper Ocoee, you will probably have worked up a bit of an appetite? At this point, we take a brake at our Middle Ocoee transition point for a delicious riverside lunch. Suitably refreshed you then continue your adventure onto the famous Middle Ocoee. Our guides love the full day Combo trip!.

This is a different campsite. The platforms were at Nantahala. This is not Nantahala. But Brian, you can still bring your inflatable queen mattress... a queen mattress for a queen.
Ok, maybe it was a inflatable twin mattress he used last time:-)
Im intrested if anyone changes their mind about attending the rafting!
This will be fun...last year the day we were there, there was a surge in the river and we ran class 1V and V the entire day...the guides were in fantasy land...every fantasy they ever had about the river being a class V, they got to do...it was a blast!
I am doing the hike before and camping over, does anyone have room in their car? John I would like a veggie burger.
Hey JC-what time and where should we meet the group on Saturday, if we are not hiking, only camping? have we decided as a group what to do for dinner Saturday night?
I think the hiking folks should get there after 5pm or so but folks are more than welcome to show up when they want. In regrda to meals since there are so many folks arriving at different times everyone is on their own for meals. Feel free to work meals out amongst any carpoolers or tent sharers.
By the way has tent sharing been done. I have a good sized 2 man tent if someone does not have a tent.
Kami, Tinamarie and I are camping, and shucks, I just bought a tent.. wish I knew sooner... Looking forwrd to this!!
Hmmm...this is Tennessee now? That changes everything...I will need a refund or credit to another event John and Kristen...
@Cheryl, this has ALWAYS been in Tennessee. As it states in the event information there are no refunds or credits. You will need to contact one of the folks on the waiting list and sell them your spot. Once you have sold your spot let me know who is taking your place and I will switch your RSVP with theirs.
Everyone, we will be camping on the grounds of our outfitters. The outfitters will direct you where but it's just down their little dirt road on the right hand side in a large grassy area. You'll see a brown bathhouse on the right as well.
Hey is anyone else bringing dogs? I would like to bring mine but since we are camping at the outfitters spot I don't know what their policy on dogs is while we are rafting??? Anyone have any insight?
Alex, since there are so many folks camping I prefer that no one bring a dog (I do not know if the outfitter allows them) because you do not know who in the group might be afraid of dogs, allergic, etc. Thanks.
We have room for 3 more people in our tent. Anyone looking to camp in a tent let me know.
Crow, please don't forget my veggie burger. I see it isn't listed :P
I am not able to make it - The FIFA World cup 2010 is on and Germany has it first match. Anyone interested in my sport please contact me :-
Horace and Konkle -- two regular burgers (or chicken's fine). Camping. Have tent. But found this on High Country's website: "Leave your pets, axes, fireworks and guns at home." What fun is that?!
@Gerhard, we'll take your spot.
Horace (using Kim's login) wants a BURGER!! Just makin' that clear...
But wait... how will John cut down a tree (and fall out of it) if we have no axe?
I did not fall out... I simply jumped out of the tree, ungracefully with some minor abrasions.
Fall out... jump out ungracefully... same thing... both look the same when you hit the bottom.
Hey John, are there showers where we are going to be camping!?!?!
...not that I will need one after hiking all day, but I know some of my fellow hikers/campers will!!!
@Brian - I know exactly who you are talking about... and yes, there are showers.
Sellimg my spot - I may have to work this weekend - if someone is interested please let me know - thanks
finally chiming in........i want a burger with fries, cheese, no pickles, only a little ketsup, 2 buns, one soda, 3 blind mice
anybody bringing firewoooooodddd???? we need good campfire stories and smores...
I will see if my friend's parents have any that's dry already. I'll post later today once I find out. We may get free firewood. :)
I will bring enough wood to give us a pretty good fire through most of the night. (And maybe have a little left over.)
Great. I don't have to lug my green pieces of wood around :)
For anyone coming up Saturday that doesn't want to miss the US vs England match and also doesn't want to set up their tent in the dark, we will be watching at Big River Grille in downtown Chattanooga. Game time = 2:30.
For anyone interested in rafting contact LUKE as he is trying to sell his spot.
John, are you really gonna make Horace and Konkle eat boogers? I'd pay good money to see that. ;-P
Thank you, John and Kristen, for an incredible 24 hours!! Let's do that again!
Refunds are not offered for this Meetup.
I'm selling my spot. Email me if you're interested. Judi
