SNOW TUBING IN NORTH CAROLINA!!!!

Scaly Mtn. (map)

Selected By: Brian W

With all the recent snow in the South, this is a perfect time to take a day-trip to the GA-NC state line for some REAL snow tubing at Scaly Mtn. Snow Mtn, aka. Stone Mtn. is OK, but much of what makes tubing fun is not allowed there; tubing-trains, paired-runs, or just trying to get as much speed going down the hill as you can and catching a little “air” under your tube!!! This is a family friendly event so a leisurely slide down the hill with the little ones is fun too!!!

Scaly Mtn. is just over the GA-NC State line near Sky Valley, GA. It is a short 1.5-2hr drive from Atlanta up I-85/I-985. The cost is for two hours of tubing. The kiddies’ hill is $12 per 2hrs for young ones that do not meet requirements for the main hill.

We will meet at the Indian Trail Rd. park and ride lot off I-85 exit #101 to carpool/caravan to Scaly Mtn. Or if you want to meet at Scaly Mtn, please note that in your response. We can stop for a late lunch (2-3pm) on the ride back or eat at the mtn; the usual burgers and fries are offered there.

Must be 42 inches or taller, and 4 years old
to ride
Kiddie slope also open for young tubers
Group rates available for parties of 20 or more

Can we do a Car Pool location off 985 and Friendship road? There is a Publix and a McDonalds there so its a great location.

Cool! I would have also my 5 year old with me and she wont be able to ride the mountain. We will think about it.
Meg or Gerd, if we go, want to carpool?

I'm going to get to the Northern carpool point - There's a section of the parking lot that's next to the McDonald's, and farthest away from the Publix. I'm thinking of parking there. I've got a black car, and you should be able to recognize me by my profile pic. Wouldn't mind riding up (car is needing new tires!)

VK, I believe Tina is setting up a carpool point at I-985 and friendship road - might be easier to meet up at that point. (I'll be coming over to the area via GA 20, so the friendship road/I-985 carpool point makes sense to me).

FYI!!! The designated carpool location is stated in the event details (Indian Trail park and ride; exit #101 off I-85). If people want to meet at the location mentioned by TinaMarie and Scott, that is fine too, but please be aware that those will be the only coordinated sites; all others, you are on your own!!!

Is the group rate cheaper than $23?
And Brian, for my little one I would pay $12, is that right?

Janine; we did not make the group rate for prepaid RSVP's. So the rate is $23. If your little one meets their qualifications, then the charge would be $12.

While the weather was nice and warm, it did lead to a lot of snow melting and the parking lot was quite muddy. But..we all had a blast!! Only thing I'd say is that next time..everyone needs to bring a separate change of clothes and separate footwear! Oh, and stopping at Dillard House for a late lunch...what a great idea!
