After checking in, you are encouraged to explore the Southeast’s highest waterfall or enjoy a meal at the Amicalola Falls Lodge. Begin your hike by 2:00 p.m. to allow plenty of time for arrival. A conservation-minded facility tour is offered at 5:00 p.m., and a family-style dinner is served at 6:00 p.m. throughout the year. Breakfast is served at 8:00 a.m. and checkout is from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. daily.
What’s Unique?
Guests arrive on foot! A moderate 5-mile hike takes you past beautiful vistas and creeks. Upon arrival, you will check in and go to your private room, which has bunk beds. Dinners are served family style, followed by an evening program about the natural or cultural resources of the Southern Appalachians. Early birds should not miss daybreak from the Sunrise Room. After a hot breakfast, explore the wilderness around the Hike Inn or head back to the park. Trail lunches, snacks, Hike Inn T-shirts, and limited hiking gear are available at the inn. Those staying two nights may want to hike to Springer Mountain, 4.4 miles away, which is the beginning of the Appalachian Trial. Leave your worries behind-Enjoy your wilderness retreat!
NO SMOKING, PETS, BEEPERS, CELL PHONES, RADIOS OR TVs ALLOWED.
The Hike Inn is a Pack It In, Pack It Out facility. No trash cans are provided.
What to Wear & Bring
Wear sturdy, comfortable boots or shoes and bring more than one change of socks. Layered, lightweight clothing will allow you to adjust to temperature changes without having to carry too many clothes in your pack. Rain gear is a must. Remember a flashlight, toiletries, camp shoes, insect repellent, sun screen and a first aid kit. Many guests also bring a camera to capture the scenic beauty. DON’T FORGET TO BRING AMPLE DRINKING WATER FOR YOUR HIKE TO THE INN! Untreated stream water is not safe for drinking. The Hike Inn has a 'refill station' for your water bottle.

If you RSVP with a guest, I will put y'all in the same room. If you wish to room with someone, write that in your RSVP. Otherwise, I will pair folks according to gender. But depending on ratio some rooms may be mixed. When you pay your deposit, I will add you to a room.

A TIP of $5.00 per person per day would be nice from everyone. Please tip more if you'd like. There are baskets and boxes for you to leave your tips. Also, last time we had live music both nights so tips are encouraged for those providing music as well..
For those staying until Monday, we will be doing a day hike on Sunday.
Hike to Springer Mtn. It's 4.4. miles (8.8 miles round trip) north from the Inn's front porch. We'll eat our sack lunch at the top. It's the official end or beginning of the App. Trail.
For the hike out - some of you may want to go back down the hike inn trail.. and others might want the more streneous 5.2 mile hike on the Approach Trail.. both end up back in the same parking area. We will be happy to show you those options here as well.
WE WILL BE MEETING AT 1PM AT THE TRAILHEAD AND START HIKING NO LATER THAN 1:15PM, IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO JOIN US.
If you don't hike with us at 1:15pm YOU NEED TO CHECK-IN BY 2PM!!! Otherwise, they won't let you hike.
It's about a 2 hour drive from Atlanta and you must check in at the Trading Post which is in the Amicalola Falls State Park Visitors Center just inside the park entrance so allow time for all of this.
LET ME REITERATE, WE WILL START HIKING PROMPTLY AT 1:15pm
For those of you who can not make 1pm or wish to hike in earlier, feel free to post comments to arrange carpooling and your own starting times. According to their website, the hike is 5 miles and takes 2 - 4 hours. I believe it took us about 2.5 hours last year.
Here is a link to their map to get you there. http://hike-inn.com/maps.asp
There are evening programs being offered each night if you would like to attend. We will know what these are closer to the dates.
If you hike in a bottle of wine, remember, you MUST carry it back out with you when you leave. I suggest boxed wine without the box.
Again, read all about Hike Inn and their rules here... http://hike-inn.com/default.asp
If you are on the rooming list above... you have paid. So you're all good, Judi!
@simply jon - you just remove the bladder from the box...

Yes, Saturday and Sunday nights. Hike out Monday morning after breakfast.

There are still 2 spots available. http://atlanta.stladventures.com/events/13074901/![]()

I can't RSVP on sky's the limit but on ga adventures Bridget and I are RSVP as yes but neither site will let me or her pay
@katie - I added you with a +1 so you should be able to pay now. Not sure why it wasn't working for you.
John!! Is there Cell phone service up there?
I don't think cell phones work up there. I know AT&T did not work. Maybe verizon but I doubt it.
which route is everyone taking? 400 or 75 to 575 and onward? I am off of Holcomb Bridge and thought 400 would be the way everyone goes but maybe not.
I'm in Roswell too and taking 400 to Dahlonega, then west toward Amicalola SP.
Steve and Jenny, I live very close to Abernathy and 400 if you don't mind carpooling together.
@ Steve, Jenny, Regina - I live by Abernathy, near exit 6 on 400. I am looking to carpool as well. winkercruz@yahoo.com & 770 940 7557. What time on Sat are you leaving and what time on Monday do you all plan on returning?
actually unless I am driving i am wondering if you could come by Mansell Park & Ride. If Abernathy is best no problem; I will park @ the Marta stop.
it only takes 2 hrs +/- to get there and he mentions starting no later then 2:00. so we could leave around 10:30 or 11:00 and have more than enough time.. maybe stop for a light snack. thoughts?
I live in VaHi if anyone wants to carpool...
Also, I need a hiking buddy! I might have to stop for air and photos..
@Steve, Winker, Jenny: meeting at the Mansell Park & Ride around 10:30 sounds great. Definitely would want to stop for a light snack before hiking 2.5 hrs.
@ Regina, Steve, Jenny: I just saw 10:30 & that works. Agreed with snack pit stop!
ok so Regina, Jenny and Winker.. can we conclude it's going to be @ 10:30 @ Mansell we meet? My info is 678-575-8496 M, 678-79-0069 H and steve_akoubian@comcast.net
Steve, sounds like a plan. Hopefully Jenny will let us know one way or the other. My info is 678-642-4596 M, reginamcclintock@gmail.com.
Thunderstorms scheduled for Sat. Prepare yourself for a muddy hike. Also if you wanna carpool from my place in Smyrna and in Sandy Springs, please let me know.
My carpool plans changed.
Kevin, are you near 285 or 400? Joan, do you want to carpool together?
Nevermind about carpooling... I'll be visiting old coworkers in Dahlonega on Monday.
@ Joan - just sent you an email in case you want to car pool with us from Decatur.
@ Leanne - ok then, see you on the mountain!
@ Judi - i'm calling you...
Hi, sorry it took me so long to respond! Thanks for the offer, but I am riding with my friend Shannon & wonder if we could all fit. See you there!
Muddy hikes .... great ... just like being back in England. Guess I better bring two boxes of wine if I'm going to be playing cards :) See you at 1:15 pm tomorrow!
I am leaving from Decatur - anyone want to carpool? Send me a msg...
I'm bringing extra games and wine just in case! It takes more than the threat of rain to dampen the fun for this group! See y'all tomorrow:)
Hi folks, my bad ankles just can't take two days of a muddy hike. So, I have a full weekend slot that I am willing to sell for 50 dollars. Call me or email me if you want to negotiate: mar.writer@gmail.com, 770-855-0034. Thanks, Meg
Alison and I are driving from Smyrna but we'll be going to REI @ Perimeter when it opens. Then we will drive up GA 400. If someone needs a ride, let me know.
Hi everyone, I am leaving from Decatur too...if anyone is interested in carpooling please let me know...
Thanks,
Maura
if I bring Baileys will any of you help me finish it and lighten my load down?
Ha ha Steve - I'm bringing Baileys too! I'll help you drink yours if you help me drink mine. I put mine in a plastic travel flask which is much lighter than the glass bottle.
It rained last year and we still had a great time. Baileys and coffee sounds lovely on a rainy day
you've got a deal Lesli.. Kevin and anyone else who wants some is welcome.
forgot to mention it's a great pain reliever in case you don't know
At least Monday's weather is supposed to be nice for the hike out:)
famous last words John...! in all seriousness, i had a great time on the hike, relaxing at the inn, and getting to know some new folks. Fog and all!
Refunds are not offered for this Meetup.
Well, since you didn't pull my winning numbers last night I guess I'm still going. Think I'm all paid up but let me know if that is not the case.
