Come join us for some fun in the sun! This is a much better, more scenic river (Taccoa River) then going up to Helen.
We will carpool up to McCaysville at 10am, bring a lunch and we will have a picnic before heading onto the river around 1pm. Please see details below.
1.5 miles
Cost:
Inner tubes $7
Snuggle tubes (for 2 people) $12
What to wear
Securely fitting shoes will help you avoid foot injury in the river and are required by Rolling Thunder. Old tennis shoes are the best. Flip flops are not suitable. Remember to bring shoes with you - for on the river and dry shoes for off the river. Rolling Thunder does not sell shoes at their retail center. Most people are most comfortable in bathing suits or shorts and a tee shirt. You will definitely get wet! Remember, that sunburn is unpleasant so be prepared.
Coolers
Coolers are allowed on the river but no glass containers can be taken on the river. Styrofoam coolers are not recommended. We will rent a tube for your cooler if you want to float it along with you. Please do not litter the river. No alcoholic beverages are allowed on river trips.
Steering your tube
Just sit your bottom in the middle of the tube, lean back and paddle with your hands while kicking your feet.
Tying tubes together
Tying tubes together is not recommended due to safety considerations. You don't want a rope to get tangled in the wrong places.
Bathrooms
There are no bathrooms on the river so you should make use of Rolling Thunder's facilities before getting on the river.
Falling off your tube
You may fall off your tube while in the river. Keeping your life jacket securely fastened at all times is the smartest thing you can do while in the river. Try to get back on your tube as quickly as possible. Be careful about standing up in any river as there may be obstacles that you cannot see.
Getting out of the river
If for any reason, you need to get out of the river before you get to Rolling Thunder's take out, it is crucial that you get out on the side of the river where the road is so that you can start walking back to Thunder. Keep in mind that mountain roads are curvy and visibility is often limited so be careful to stay on the shoulder.
Water critters
Any river is home to all sorts of critters. We have never had a single person have a bad experience with this facet of their trip. Be aware and stay away from any critters if you do see them. Staying away from the side of river and tree branches is recommended.
Type of tubes
Our colorful vinyl inner tubes have handles and some have seats in them and some do not.
Parking
There is parking for your vehicle at Rolling Thunder. Please do not take your car key with you on the river. Leave them with our personnel so you will have them when you return. Keys that go in the river are impossible to find.
Eyeglasses
If you must wear glasses of any kind, consider securing them with a retainer of some type. Rolling Thunder carries retainers at their retail shop for your convenience.
Security deposit for tubes
In lieu of collecting a cash deposit when you rent your tubes, Rolling Thunder will hold your driver's license and a credit card number. When you return your rental equipment, your license will be returned to you.
If you lose or damage your tube
If you lose or damage your tube, you will be charged $20.
Are children welcome? If so, is there an age range? I am thinking about popping out a few 6-10 year olds between now and then. ;)
Any idea what time we will be returning? I have a birthday party to attend later that day.
Just curious: If the single tube is only $7, why is it $12 to sign up for the event?
@Meg--You should be able to change the payment amount to $7 (but double-check with Hailey; she set this up, so I'm not 100%...) Thanks!
Where are we carpooling from? Has a location been set ... or is everyone making individual plans? Would anyone like to carpool from the West side (Woodstock/Kennesaw/Marietta/Acwor
th)?
Meg.... I cannot put 2 different payments on Meetup, you will need to change the amount if you want to have a single tube to $7.00, you can do this when you go to pay. Thanks
I just found out my nephew will be with me on Friday night- is it too late to add two more to this event?

Andrea Garwood has a child too young to go, If anyone is interested in their 3 spots please let her know.
I will sell my spots at a discount 50% off....please call me at 770-713-0812....thanks!!!! Andrea
The River is being dam released tomorrow, so the trip will be twice as fast and should be lots of fun. We will be going through this twice no extra payment necessary. They are charging other groups extra to do it more then once but I worked out a deal with them. If you plan on going MORE than 2 times it will be $5.00. But it should be one helluva ride! No children under 7 will be allowed because of the rapids.
I need one more single ticket......my son would be joining us.
I talked to Andrea and she sold me one her tickets! Thanks Andrea!
I had an emergency and cannot attend, anyone that wants it can take my place.
My friend Elicia and her daughter want to join us. If anyone has two single spots available, please call me (404) 285-4350 cell
Refunds are not offered for this Meetup.
This is the Taccoa River. :)
