UPDATE 7/15/10: NO REFUNDS! WE JUST PAID THE FULL DEPOSIT ON EVERYONE, INCLUDING CAMPING. SO, NOW IF YOU CAN'T GO YOU WILL HAVE TO SELL YOUR SPOT.
Join us for an EXCITING morning of Whitewater Rafting on the UPPER and MIDDLE Ocoee at an AMAZING STL price!
For $73.00 you get the Upper & Middle Ocoee Combo, lunch, and camping the night before.
if you are not camping its $67.00
THIS TRIP SOLD OUT IN LESS THEN 36 HOURS LAST TIME!! DO NOT MISS IT!!
We will start at 8:30am and will be finished by 2:30pm which gives us plenty of time to drive back to Atlanta, plus, if folks want to grab another bite to eat afterwards we can do that as well.
We will meet at the outfitters NO LATER THAN 8:00AM on Sunday, August 15th.
For those NOT camping make sure you are here by this time. Be on time, otherwise, you lose out on your spot and money.
We will be on the water approximately 4 1/2 hours. We will be running rapids up to Class V. This is going to be AWESOME!
You will get WET so please wear something that dries fast! That's what makes whitewater rafting so fun! The water is cold, dress accordingly. No sandals, you must have good water shoes that will not come off if you decide to swim one of the rapids.
Bring dry clothes, to change in after we're done. Also, please bring some cash to tip your guides. I'd say between $3-$5 per person but that's your call. Pay more if you'd like.
There will be six (6) paddlers and a guide in each boat.

"NEW" UPPER AND MIDDLE OCOEE RIVER COMBINATION
You can now raft the 1996 Olympic Course on the Ocoee River! The Legacy of the 1996 Olympic Games to the Ocoee Region is a 5-mile stretch of powerful rapids upstream from the traditional put-in for the Middle Ocoee River.
If you have rafted the Middle Ocoee, you will find that the Upper Ocoee provides a much different and more diverse paddling experience. From the put-in you will float downstream through a sublime wilderness setting with scenic mountain vistas and easy warm-up rapids. As you acclimatize to the challenges of whitewater, the anticipation begins to build for larger rapids lurking downstream. An angry roar from up ahead soon draws your attention from the scenery as you approach the first big drop, a maelstrom named "Mikey" for its appetite (for it will eat anything.) Paddle hard, for those who survive the giant pour-over at "Mikey" immediately find themselves battling the continuous waves and large (unavoidable) hydraulics of the "Blue Hole" rapid.
Just downstream you will run the most distinctive rapids in the Eastern U.S. on the 1800-feet long Olympic course that continues to challenge the world's best paddlers. 35 million dollars were spent prior to the '96 games to engineer this steep stretch of riverbed into a veritable whitewater heaven, where named drops like "Smiley Face" and "Humongous" simply blend together into one unforgettable roller coaster ride. Haven't had enough yet? The Upper Ocoee River saves the best for last, traveling downstream from the Olympic Course you will be tested by "Hungry Mother," the largest rapid on the entire river. If "Mickey" didn't eat you already, be very wary around her mother. After your exciting run on the Upper Ocoee, you will probably have worked up a bit of an appetite? At this point, we take a brake at our Middle Ocoee transition point for a delicious riverside lunch. Suitably refreshed you then continue your adventure onto the famous Middle Ocoee. Our guides love the full day Combo trip!.

Discovered the hard way this weekend that Tevas aren't so great for ww rafting and that hard-toed water shoes are best! My poor big toe is still a little tender today!!
Thanks guys... depends on when I have to get Ryan down to GA Southern. I can bring the other one, Jordon, with me, but........... he's only 14! and I gotta think about it first! Sure had a BLAST with everyone!!!
@Pennye - we'll bring a "bleep" machine for the evening conversations.
More than likely, I am camping ... I believe $73 was remitted. Plus, I'd hate to miss all of the COTU laughter and fans. :)
Folks can arrive whenever they'd like on Saturday that are camping. Kristen and I will probably be there early afternoon as we are zip lining Saturday morning in North Georgia.
I will be coming from Atlanta, I paid for camping as well. If anyone needs a carpool buddy then let's talk!
Yes, you will need your own tent or email somebody on the "yes" list to see if they have room in their tent. Camping is basic on the site of the outfitters. There are showers and bathrooms. It's best that folks arranging to carpool together, share meals. There is a McDonald's 1/2 mile down the road that you can get breakfast at on Sunday morning.
I'm planning to partake on all the "Campground" activities but I'm not going to sleep on a tent in the middle of August Heat. I'm not trying to discourage anyone from camping but if you're interested in Sharing a Cabin on site or a Room at the Whitewater Inn just 2 minutes up the road from the camp site please give me a shout!
Thanks
Rockie...that sounds like a fabulous idea....I dont have any camping equipment...
The Cabins on site do have Kitches, the Whitewater Inn have Kitchenettes I think... But I do plan to share in the Pot Luck Dinner & Breakfast at the campsite, I just don't want to sleep in the August Heat... Plus you get your own bathroom and shower...
...and yes, the Whitewater Inn is less than .5 mile away from the Outfitter/Campground, the Cabins are on the Outfitter Property, I just don't know where in the Property they are... Once I have a "Possible" Headcount on who wants to join me I'll make the arrangements but I'd like to have this squared away before the end of next week.
To each his own, but half the fun of this trip is the camping! The 2nd half is the rafting! The evenings usually cool down into the comfortable high 60's, low 70's.
I agree with you John, 50% of the fun is hanging out in the campground and I plan top partake in every minute of that, but when it's time to hit the hay (and since I'm not planning to share a tent with you, not that you or I wanted me to) 100% of my extra fun will come out of being able to take a shower before sleep, wash away the campground stink and comfortably sleep on a climate controlled room with a comfy bed & pillow. Just saying...
We can't go anymore either BOO! If anyone is looking for a spot, please email me through meet up or Chris. We were so looking forward to it but something came up.
For those selling your spots, let Kristen or I know who you sell them to and we will switch your names out under the RSVPs. Thanks and sorry you can't make it.
Can people not on the waiting list by tickets for sale?
ANYBODY CAN BUY THE SPACES FOLKS ARE OFFERING UP! You do NOT need to be on the waiting list. This is first come first serve.
To those trying to sell their spots, I just sent out an email to all the folks on the waiting list and also I sent an email out yesterday. Please let me know when you sell your spot and to whom and I will switch you all out.
John - I purchased the 2 tickets from Joel Robinson and we will definitely be camping Saturday night! Let me know if you need any additional information! Thanks!
Did I miss something :) What's for lunch? I dont eat red meat anymore :(
I will not be able to camp but still plan on attending Sunday. If anyone would like to carpool please let me know!
GEEK/NERD ALERT: The Perseid meteor shower is this weekend. Anyone got a telescope to bring?
I will be leaving from lake Allatoona right off of 75 to go camping Saturday. If your coming from the Altanta area it's right on the way to the river. If anyone is interested in carpooling let me know.
Anyone want to share a cabin? I'll buy a slot if there's a cabin to share. smarie99@hotmail.com
So now that I'm going is there any room left in a carpool that heading up for camping?
Can't RSVP yes online. I bought a slot from Rockie and will be in the cabins. I'll be going up Saturday afternoon if anyone want to carpool.
@Marie, I mite want to carpool..where r u locate...can you email me through meetup? Thx
WOOHOO!! So freakin' excited ! Even though we just did this in June- we are ready AGAIN!! F-U-N-!!!
Unfortunately I am unable to make it, so my spot is available to purchase - just one spot, my + 1 (Jack) is still coming. I'll take $40 for it if anyone is interested.
Also, I had to cancel my room at a local B&B called The Ocoee Mist 1-888-541-9583. So in case anyone is looking for a place to stay tonight (as an alternative to camping in the rain) I think they will have something available.
So sorry to be missing this...
Deborah...you can get a credit from the outfitter...maybe Jack can make the request on your behalf...i was able to get a credit voucher for myself the last time we had this trip...
We're heading up about 4pm, be there around 6-6:30. Still planning to camp. Hoping no rain. If it does we may opt for a cabin spot.
Sarah, Kristen and I are headed there now after zip lining. Wr should be there by 4:30 and we are camping.
I'm posting this kind of late....but I'm not camping, just coming out Sunday morning. See everyone then! I'm pumped!
Jason you have to be here by 8am period. (Per Kristen) Its a full 2.5 hour drive.
Refunds are not offered for this Meetup.
Rocio is using her cradit from the last Ocoee trip
