SUNSET AND FULL MOONRISE AT STONE MTN!!!!

Selected By: Brian W

No location was chosen

This month, something astrologically special will happen; the sun will set and the full moon will rise within minutes on each other!!!

Sunset: 8:42pm
Full-moon-rise: 9:01pm

Lets hike up to the top of Stone Mtn. to witness these two events!!!!

We will meet in the Confederate Hall parking area on the West side of the park at 6:30pm and begin hiking at 7pm. Feel free to bring munchies and maybe an adult beverage to enjoy at the top of the mountain. Also, DON’T FORGET A FLASHLIGHT/HEADLIGHT for the hike down……it will be dark!!!!

7/9 UPDATE!!!!
Instead of trying to meet for dinner before the hike, lets bring dinner with us and eat at the top!!!! Lets each try to bring items that are easy to share and transport in a small back pack. If you know what you will be bringing, post it on you RSVP.

I think with this many people signed up, we might be better off bringing our own personal picnic dinners?

I agree w/Meg, think people should bring their own dinners...but can we bring beer?

I am not sure of the parks policy on adult bevs. or how strictly enforced their policy might be. If you choose to bring an adult bev., please be responsible and smart.

I have never been to Stone Mountain- is there a specific area that members are planning to meet before the hike begins? If not, once you get to the top how will members find each other?

Entry Fee/One Day Parking is $10.00 per vehicle. And the WEST GATE ENTRANCE near Stone Mountain Village is the nearest to the Walk-Up Trial.

If you don't mind walking, park at the Marta lot located near the corner of 4th & E Mountain Street. You will need to walk down E Mountain Street to the park. If you walk in, you don't have to pay.

This is a private park, and as long as they are open, they DO charge for admission. Sounds like carpooling makes sense to me!!!!!

I thought the fee was $8/ vehicle or $35 for a year pass (cash only).

Hi Luke! Being a "frequent flyer" who purchases the yearly entry pass, the $8 entry fee was two years ago. Here's the link to verify www.stonemountainpark.com

Thanks Katherine - I have a yearly pass. I didn't realize Stone Mt raised the price of the daily rate.

ALCOHOL IS NOT ALLOWED ON STONE MTN.........
YOU CAN ONLY HAVE IT IN THE CAMPGROUND AND PICNIC AREAS BUT NOT ANYWHERE NEAR THE MTN.....

I just got off the phone with Stn. Mtn Park, they have not gotten any rain today. On any typical summer day in Atlanta, one part on the city could have a thunderstorm, and another be completly dry. At this point, the hike is still ON!!!!!

I am confused. Don't bring alcohol and just bring food for yourself? Is this correct?

The rain start time forecast just changed from 10 PM to 6-7 PM tonight according to Weather.com for Stone Mountain. Partly sunny by 8PM though....might be hard to see both events with all the clouds. http://www.weather.com/outlook/recreation/outdoors/hourby...#
