The Visit 2010: H.H. The Dalai Lama

PLEASE MAKE SURE TO READ THE IMPORTANT NOTE SECTION AT THE BOTTOM.

UPDATE on 10/07/2010:
As we approach the final days before The Visit 2010 of His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama, there are a few seats remaining in the back rows of the reserved sections and the bleachers at three of the five events. In order to ensure capacity audiences, the following promotions/changes are taking place for the remaining tickets:

1) The Professor's Office Hours (10/19 from 10:00 – 11:30 am) Remaining tickets are now ALSO available to alumni, parents, friends, and the general public at the great $10 and $15 ticket prices. These tickets will go extremely fast at this price, so order quickly. This program features an hour-and-a-half with the Dalai Lama and President James W. Wagner on a wide range of subjects suggested by the Emory Community. There are few opportunities in the world to see a program like this for $10-$15, so order quickly. Faculty, staff, and students--who have had exclusive purchasing opportunities up until this point-can still order tickets, of course. The Gold section is sold-out and the free bleacher tickets have been distributed. Great seats in the Red and Blue sections remain.

Please note, despite what it says on the ticket itself, it is no longer necessary to present an Emory ID with your ticket now that the remaining seats are open to the public. All public attendees at this event who do not already have parking permits to park on Emory campus during a business day must park at the satellite parking lots and ride shuttles to/from the event. Details regarding this free parking/shuttling plan will be sent to all ticketholders.

2) Compassion Meditation Conference (10/18; Morning and Afternoon): The $25-off student (any school, any level) discount has been extended to all remaining Compassion Meditation tickets. This includes the remaining blue, red, and bleacher-level seats for this historic gathering. This discount does not apply to prior sales and only applies to the "last remaining rows" in each section.

3) The Creative Journey event with Richard Gere and Alice Walker is nearly sold out. Fewer than 30 reserved seats (all in the blue zone) remain. Order yours quickly if you haven't already. A few bleacher seats (bleacher seats are general admission) remain as well. This event will certainly sell out before next week, so order quickly!

All tickets are available for purchase through links found at http://dalailama.emor... or by phone at 1-[masked].

Looking for an easy way to help promote The Visit 2010 in your community?
Print out this flyer (http://dalailama.emor...) for the Compassion Meditation event (great seats still remain!) and post it in your office, local coffee shop, bookstore, or other area. Remember, this event can qualify for continuing professional education in a number of fields (we just added Licensed Professional Counselors to a list which includes medicine, psychology, theology/clergy, and more). We thank you for your help in getting the word out!

UPDATE: Do you know someone who purchased their tickets for The Visit events at a retail store (like CD Warehouse) rather than online or by telephone? If so, please encourage them to "register" their tickets at the Visit website. When you purchase online or by phone, key contact info is collected so that we can keep you up-to-date on parking and logistics. Purchasing in-store did not allow the ticket system to collect that info. By registering at (http://dalailama.emor...) we'll be able to contact them with important information.

His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama returns to the Emory University campus Oct. 17-19, 2010, in his capacity as Presidential Distinguished Professor, the only university appointment accepted by the 1989 Nobel Peace Laureate and leader of the Tibetan people.

The Dalai Lama will participate in a series of public events, including programs on science research and meditation, creativity and spirituality, an interfaith dialogue and a teaching for the Buddhist community on compassion.

The first show: INTERFAITH SUMMIT ON HAPPINESS: Understanding and Promoting Happiness in Today’s Society HAS ALREADY SOLD OUT. But there are still some really good seats available for the other shows as of the posting date of this event.

Additional conferences are as follows:
COMPASSION MEDITATION:
Mapping Current Research and Charting Future Directions
Monday, October 18, 2010, All day event. 9:30–11:30 a.m. (Session 1) and
1:30–3:30 p.m. (Session 2)
This event will bring together researchers from leading universities to map the current field of compassion meditation research and to chart future directions as well as to discuss implementing this knowledge in educational and clinical settings. The Dalai Lama will participate fully in both sessions.

THE CREATIVE JOURNEY:
Artists in Conversation with the Dalai Lama about Spirituality and Creativity
Tuesday, October 19, 2010, 1:30–3:30 p.m.
Brief Description: Listen to Pulitzer Prize–winning author Alice Walker and award-winning composer Philip Glass—as well as other to-be-announced artists—as they converse with the Dalai Lama on the symbiotic relationship between spirituality and the arts.

TEACHING TO THE BUDDHIST COMMUNITY:
The Practice of Compassion
Sunday, October 17, 2010, 9–10:30 a.m.
Brief Description: This teaching will offer a coveted opportunity to witness a teaching to the region’s Buddhist community. The Dalai Lama will explain the nature of compassion and the practices for cultivating it as understood in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.

International Conference on Tibetan Buddhism
Monday, October 18 (opening reception), Tuesday October, 19 and Wednesday, October 20 (Conference Sessions)
Brief Description: The first of its kind and scope, the International Tibetan Buddhism Conference will bring together the preeminent leaders, teachers, scholars, and translators of Tibetan Buddhism from both traditionally Tibetan Buddhist areas and western countries to engage in substantive discussion about the current state of Tibetan Buddhism in the modern world and how best to move forward collectively. His Holiness the Dalai Lama will inaugurate the conference and preside over the opening session. (Learn more)
Registration to this conference will include a complementary admission to the "Teaching to the Buddhist Community" event detailed above.

Additional tickets/events are available for those interested in sponsorship packages.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

Please click on the corresponding links for the conference(s) you are interested in. If you are having trouble with the individual links, copy/click this: http://dalailama.emor.... It is extremely important that you read all the details, ticket information, and times for each event as important information can be missed if you just gloss over the tiny description and buy your tickets. For example, the sesson on Monday gives a start time of 9:30am, however the details state you must enter the parking lot NO LATER THEN 7:30am. Since there are no refunds, this could mean you could have spent a lot of money and missed the conference.

Some of the conferences offer student discounts, so read carefully if you are a student at any school.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Was very cool just to be in the same room, but the sound system was terrible and I only heard about 1/2 of what was said. Hope they fixed it for future dates.
